Ravignat (see further reading) gives no source for his “88th Degree: Supreme Grand Council General of the 88th, Sovereign Grand Princes of the 88th”, but I think it (partly) comes from Fonds Gaborria Ms.-372: “Rite de Misraïm. Les 3 suprêmes conseils du système d’Arcano, Arcanorum des 88e, 89e et 90e degrés, 17e classe” which contains three “Arcana Arcanorum” degrees.
Ravignat’s translation has “Explanation of the Tracing Boards”, which opens with: “My Brother these two images before you show the body of ma in its fallen state influenced by the stars and planets and their good and bad properties.” Ravignat presents what is often called a “Zodiac Man”. There is no such image in Gaborria Ms.-372, but I understand Ravignat’s choice. A bit of a problem is that he shows a picture that is frequently reproduced, but in spite of his source: “Zodiacal Man in Medical Astrology, 1609″, I can’t find the actual source. Therefor I decided to use another, but very similar images.
The suggestion is that such an image was used as a tracing board.
